Hi Jonathan, that’s a great way of looking at things. Re book clubs I belonged to a free one with a group of friends. We each added 5 books to the box to begin with and basically lent them to each other. Who ever was hosting would add a few more books and tell us what they liked about them so we had a lot of good books to read that our friends personally recommended free:)

Hi Michelle, clothes swap parties are great and a good way to bond. I still have a great pair of cut off shorts from a clothes swap party and think about the friend who gave them to me every time I wear them:)

Hi Corinne, thank you for commenting – you’re right it is quite basic stuff but people borrow a bit then a bit more and so it continues until they’re bogged down in debt! Patience is a great tip too and amassing wealth does take time.

Great article Annabel! Alot of these seem like fairly simple tips that people sadly look over. By following tips like this, it can really add up how much money you save over time. I think being patient for what you really want is key- a lot of companies will initially make the price higher to make the product seem like it has better value, then lower the price significantly within the next month (i.e. the iphone).

I think having the right attitude is good too. Think of thrift as purifying and ultimately liberating.
