I agree that you need to pick and choose who to share certain ideas with. But sharing them definitely helps me process. I share most of my ideas with close friends. When I feel a little more confident in them, I'll share them with acquaintances.

Agreed here! Though I think the initial excitement is just that–excitement–and that even before you share the idea, letting it sit for a day or two will often let the idea run it's natural course (and you decide to move on).

So I agree as to sharing, but I think the first step is to just let it ferment :-).

I find my best ideas come from talking with others. However, the “what if'ers” do offer me the chance to test ideas and strengthen them. Certainly,they take away time, but the conversations are so worth it.

I have a core group of friends who I bounce my ideas off of. I actually just talked with a few of them about a new website that I want to develop. Most of them liked it and a few of them didn't. I like that they didn't all agree. They gave me some good feed back and now I feel that I can proceed and make it better.

I think there's also a lot of value to giving away ideas — I love the working through an idea stage, but while I have time to discuss quite a few ideas with my friends, I don't have time to follow through on them. So I try to take sharing ideas that extra step regularly.

Yes, it is good to share ideas.
I find the chatting about it very useful in terms of getting new thoughts and inspirations.
I do still, however, find it difficult in terms of a "fear of rejection".
I think it needs practice so that one can see that the benefits outway the discomfort.

I like to bounce all ideas off friends…but pick carefully who you share with and when. I generally like positive feedback, especially in the early stages and have a couple friends that love to “pick things apart”…you know the type – “this will never work” or “what if”!

So if you want affirmation first, make sure you pick someone that will give you positive feedback. If you want the down and dirty, pick the critique, but be prepared to get heartbroken.

Fortunately, I have hundreds of new ideas, many unique, so I can afford to share them when I'm ready to review them. I put them in dream catcher mode until I'm ready to explore them further.
