LifeDev

So, I’m going to be brutally honest. I’ve been getting burned out writing at LifeDev. It’s not because I don’t enjoy the writing, or the wonderful people who visit my blog. It’s that I’ve had a slew of ideas that I’m trying to work on, and when my plate is filled, it seems that LifeDev always seems to get the short end of the stick.

It was easy to overlook LifeDev, as much of my job is writing for other blogs. When you write for a better part of the day, the prospect of more writing isn’t the most exciting.

It’s not a JOB, dummy!

I had started to associate my job with LifeDev. I wanted this blog to be successful, and in order to do that, I believed I needed to follow a formal set of “rules” to ensure the blog’s success. I needed to write a certain number of posts a week, a certain length, in a certain style. Just like my job.

That’s kind of contradictory given this blog is centered on creativity, isn’t it? Since when had this blog ever been a job? It was originally started as a creative outlet. I’ve managed to build a community of around 10,000 creative people, and I still viewed it as a job?!

The need for creative outlets

Once I started viewing LifeDev as a creative outlet instead of an obligation, the ideas started to come back. I’ll be gradually writing more frequently, and the format may not be the same as before. It’s going to be fun. If I feel like writing longer posts, I will. If I have a two sentence post in mind, then I’ll post that. There’s not going to be as much structure, because this needs to be fun. So join me on the ride, will you? Oh, and thanks for sticking with me this far. You guys are awesome, and as the holidays are in full swing I couldn’t be more thankful for a group as committed and smart as all of you. You guys are what makes this fun.

Tangent: I should probably add that I’ve been using Twitter a lot more lately, so if you’re into that follow me. I’ve been meeting a lot of great people through Twitter, and I love it as a conversational medium.
