Oh, and forgot to add one more thing: All of your comments can be aggregated into one place. For example, my Disqus page has all of my comments across blogs that use Disqus:

Well, the fact that it allows threaded conversation was a nice thing to add, and the user interface is 10x better than the default WordPress comment system.

But the main selling point is that basically everyone I've heard of who uses it has had a huge bump in comment interaction (like 300%). That's encouraging ;)
