LifeDev Reader Input: Online Guide Suggestions
- Posted by glen on May 10th, 2007
The past couple of weeks have been crazy. We’ve added a couple new blogs around here, and the response has been pretty terrific. The LifeDev community is growing, and is very vocal (as you can see by the amount of comments on some of the latest posts). The awesome discussions being held on this blog in the past few weeks has prompted me to ask a favor.
Brett Kelly of the most-excellent Cranking Widgets blog and I have started writing an online guide of sorts (really, an ebook) on how to survive as a web worker. It touches on many of the topics that we cover here on the LifeDev network, but also on many other subjects that aren’t discussed here. Here’s a few (definitely not all) of the topics we’re going to touch on:
- Health Issues associated with online working (RSI, obesity, sleep deprivation), and how to correct them
- Best working environments
- Limiting distractions
- Organization methods (GTD, etc.)
- Productivity tools that work
- The art of eliminating time wasters
- How to develop good habits
… and others that have yet to be determined. This is where you, the good and opinionated reader, come into the mix.
We’d love to hear if you’ve gotten any suggestions on other topics that might be helpful to online workers. We know there are tons more than what’s in this “starter” list, and would hate to have a limited guide. If you think there’s something important we’ve missed (and should be slapped in result of), drop it below in the comments. Or shoot us an email at blogfuse at gmail.com.
We’d really appreciate your input, and can’t wait to hear your ideas!

It’s related to best working environment, but as a webworker you lack the (real life) social interaction that comes with colleagues. This is definitely something to touch upon in such a guide in my opinion. People are social beings, how do you get the optimal working environment and keep the real life (social) interactions.
