Off the Record: How Do You Like to Slack Off?
- Posted by glen on March 14th, 2007
I realize that while this blog focuses on productivity, it’s always interesting to see what people do in their free time. While these hobbies might tend to distract on occasion, they can also energize and fill our tanks, so to speak.
I already know that Brett is a coffee bean nut, Darren shoots pictures, and I myself enjoy a game of frisbee golf.
What about you?

I read, but I make it a point to read something different than my “work reading”. I’m a writer and a college student, so I crank through a lot of text every day.
On the weekends, however, I get away from the computer, away from the textbooks and snuggle up with some serious escapist fiction.

Bad eighties movies, good books, four children 8 and under, baseball game, nap.
Not all in one period of time, of course, but if it happens, glory.

Most of my non-work time is taken up with family stuff, which is no bad thing.
On the odd occasion when I really do have time to myself I usually play on my Xbox360. I’m looking forward to Virtua Tennis 3 at the end of the month.

I do triathlons. Mostly long distance (1/2 and full Ironman triathlons) so my free time is all about training.

While I do enjoy the coffee (roasting, brewing, etc.) - my farting around is a multi-faceted beast!
Spending time with my family is the big one, but I also enjoy a good all-night hacking session. Oh, and I watch Law & Order like it’s gonna be illegal tomorrow. :)

I love to read and go to thrift stores or book stores and dig for good book finds. If I had a whole day to myself, most of it would be spent in a good bookstore. Lately, I’ve also picked up the hobby of creating/swapping Artist Trading Cards. Although they can be done digitally, I’ve enjoyed turning OFF the computer and actually doing some hands on art.
Of course, there are my kids, who are highly entertaining. Most of the time. :)
