“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. “- Teddy Roosevelt
Resourcefulness is really just another word for creativity. It’s how you get something done. Many times the difference between failure and success in a project is whether or not you were resourceful in getting the job done.
Many times people don’t realize the value in doing instead of waiting. Waiting is always going to be an option when you’re trying to get something done. With GTD, the question is whether you’ll do it or defer it. But in almost any business, project or organization, the early adopters are the ones who are winning.
Seth Godin has a list of “best times to start“, and it’s a real eye opener. Why? Because although it’s supposed to be satirical, I can see myself using many of those excuses for not getting something done.
- The best time to start is when everything at home is stable and you can really focus.
- The best time to start is when you’re out of debt.
- The best time to start is when you’ve got enough money in the bank to support all contingencies.
I’ve used variations of each of those excuses at least once when working on a single project. Anyone else?
