Productivity Isn’t a Tool

comments

I get very excited when I see a new productivity app that I can try out. I’m obsessed with ‘em, to be brutally honest. Does this make me a more organized person? Not a chance. You see, it’s not the device that is going to change us, but our mindset.

Virtual assistants are consultants who follow professionals around and help them become better at X, depending on his/her client’s needs. There’s some software called Accomplice that basically makes the virtual assistant, well… virtual. That way, people can just buy software that will help them become better at productivity, managing time, etc. Except, Nora at AYS Virtual Assistant believes that there’s one big difference: it won’t help.

“In the past, organization used to be a challenge for me. Like most chronically disorganized folks, I was attracted to the latest shiny new tool or software application thinking that it was going to be my salvation. 99.5 times out of 100, that is not the case.

It’s the same as many people’s challenge to embrace exercise and proper eating habits — one more piece of equipment, healthy cookbook or gym membership doesn’t help. You need to help yourself, and you need to surround yourself with people who can help when you cannot.

Sage advice for the rabid productivity hound in all of us.
