I totally love my blackberry. Not from the point of view that I text message all day, or do other completely useless things like that, but the fact that it is mobile note taking that I can email to my self. I find it increadibly useful. Plus the agenda feature and the phone do not hurt.

[...] Most people associate mindsets with locations. When I go to a bedroom, I sleep. When I go to a kitchen, I eat. When I go to a bathroom, I …. brush my teeth. We’ve trained ourselves to not even think about it. The idea behind a “work space” is that you take on a work-mindset there as well, because that’s what you do while in that space. Yet just like the cell phone and email, the main problem with productivity is using the same tool for work and play; the blurring of edges. With a laptop, the same concept is true: when you’re constantly moving to different “work” locations, you never even have a chance to establish those edges. [...]

[...] Oh man, this post could be 8 miles long. I’ve already written a couple posts over the dangers of time spent on the computer. Limiting the time spent online seems so simple, yet in reality it’s such a hard thing to do. Especially for people working on the computer for a living (which the number is growing daily). The big beautiful internet and its email gives us so many more freedoms and choices, yet also gives us new expectations that traditional mail never could have dreamed of. Why? Because just like the cell phone, we use our email for both personal reasons and for work. We’ve blurred the line between work and play. [...]
