Social Media Shopping With Wize.com

Ahh, the power of collective wisdom has finally been utilized as a shopping tool. Sure, sites like Amazon have always had reviews, and sites like Pricegrabber have always compared prices. But nobody has harnessed the power of social media (yay!) and online shopping quite like Wize.com. They actually calculate three different scores:

1.) The “buzz” of a product (how many times it’s been talked about on the web)

2.) Expert Reviews

3.) User Reviews

Once these scores have been collected, they are then lumped together to give you the WizeRank.

Pricegrabber’s price comparison is great EXCEPT it plays favorites. There are advertised “featured merchants” that have their products listed higher on the page than cheaper stores. Not at Wize. They don’t play favorites. The beauty is in the simplicity. You save time because you don’t have to sift through a mound of reviews, and not know which ones really “counted”. Differentiating between expert reviews and user reviews means that you do less reading, and you let Wize do the thinking. Not only that, Wize finds some of the lowest prices by using Shopping.com to scour deals.

Although this post doesn’t really relate too much to productivity, this is a great example of how to take something pretty dadgum confusing (like aggregated user input), and roll it into something simple and clean for anyone to understand. That’s the core of efficiency.  Wize.com only shows you what you need to know immediately, and in the simplest way possible.  Now that’s efficiency.

  • Glen,
Thanks for posting the thoughtful review. You are right on with what we are trying to do at wize.com . We are taking a task that is very difficult for the average consumer(synthesing all of the data and information about products) and reducing it to a very simple one. We’ve just recieved some funding and are going to be laser focused on taking wize to the next level and helping people determine what to buy. Best, Tom Patterson CEO of Wize
